Continuing at Your Current University
Updated June 2026
If you are completing a Russian Language Course or Preparatory Department programme and continuing at the same university for the next level (another Russian course, Preparatory, Bachelor's, or Master's), the process is simpler and faster than transferring to a new institution. You receive a longer exit visa, usually do not need to change hostels, and pay fewer administrative fees.
Need help with your transition?
Your inBelarus agent on Go will guide you through every step and payment.
Who This Guide Is For
- Students finishing a Russian Language Course and enrolling in the Preparatory Department or Bachelor's at the same university
- Students finishing a Preparatory Department and enrolling in a Bachelor's at the same university
- Students finishing a Bachelor's and continuing to a Master's at the same university
Your Exit Visa
Because you are staying at the same university, your exit visa is valid for 1 month — longer than the 2-week visa issued when transferring to a different university. This gives you more time to complete the administrative steps before your new enrollment officially begins.
Getting Your Documents Back
In most cases you do not need to retrieve all your original documents from the university when staying at the same institution. However, you should still request a study certificate confirming you completed your current programme, and confirm with your agent which documents the re-enrollment process requires.
Documents to retrieve:
- Study certificate from current programme (confirming completion)
- Check with your agent: certain universities may request original documents for re-registration even for internal continuations
- Medical insurance documents (you will need these for the insurance extension)
Unlike transfers, you generally do not need to collect all originals from the university — they may already be on file for your next enrollment.
If you are requesting a hostel room change, expect a fee of up to $100 charged by the university.
If you are keeping your current hostel room, no hostel prepayment is normally required.
Step-by-Step Process
Confirm your intention to continue with your agent and university
Inform your agent and the university administration that you plan to continue at the same institution. This should be done at least 2–3 weeks before your programme ends to allow enough time for the paperwork to be prepared.
Complete your exit list (if required)
Some universities issue an exit list even for internal continuations. Ask your university whether this is required. Collect any necessary signatures and settle all outstanding balances.
Obtain your 1-month exit visa
About 1 week before your current programme ends, obtain the 1-month exit visa from the university. Have the exit visa fee (~$100) and the hostel upfront payment (~$80–100 for the 1-month period) ready.
Fill in re-enrollment application forms
Your agent will provide the application forms required for your next programme. For internal continuations, this process is less complex than a fresh application. Pay the platform fee and any university fees due.
Pay all required fees on schedule
Follow the fee schedule below. The most time-sensitive payments are the first tuition instalment, any university fees, and the platform fee — these should be available by your last day. The visa extension and insurance extension are due within approximately 2 weeks.
Await enrollment confirmation
Processing for same-university continuations is faster than for transfers. Your agent will confirm when your new TRP is issued. Until then, you are on exit visa status.

Processing Timeline & Exit Visas
Expected processing time
Faster than transfers — typically 2–4 weeks depending on the university. BSUIR is typically quickest; BSU takes the longest even for internal continuations.
How many exit visas to expect
1 exit visa in most cases. For same-university continuations, 1 exit visa of 1 month is typically sufficient. A second is occasionally needed if processing takes slightly longer.
Important Notes
UNIVERSITY-SPECIFIC FEES VARY: BSUIR typically charges nothing extra for internal continuations. BNTU charges around $100 (interview + doc review). BSU may charge $150–200. BSTU charges up to $100. These amounts are approximate and subject to change — confirm with your agent.
HOSTEL: If you stay in the same room, no new hostel prepayment is needed (beyond the 1-month exit visa upfront). If you request a room change, budget up to $100 for the hostel change fee. New hostel prepayment only applies if moving to a completely different hostel building.
ANNUAL MEDICAL CHECKUP: If you have been in Belarus for more than 11 months since your arrival, the university will likely require the annual medical examination (~$100) as part of your re-enrollment.
ALL PRICES ARE APPROXIMATE: Fees are paid in Belarusian rubles at the National Bank exchange rate. Add a 5–10% buffer. Information is subject to change — confirm with your agent.
